Travelling to TR18
What you need to know: TR18 starts with the evening function from 1830 on Friday 18th, and you will need to be at the function location by then – it’s changed, so stand by for an update.
So, if you’re not planning to sign up for the Education Day event, ensure that you can arrive in Melbourne around 1530 and you’ll have no trouble getting to your hotel and then to the welcome by 1830. We take care of arrangements after that.
You’ll be away from TR18 in time to catch a 1500 flight on Sunday 20th. Or stay around!
Those registering for the education event on Friday 18 June will need to be ready to start at 0930, and our recommendation is to come in the night before. Plan travel accordingly.
Travelling around Melbourne
This year it’s at Parkville Melbourne, hosted at the Maltese Community Council of Victoria ( 467-477 Royal Parade, Parkville VIC 3052) and our recommended accommodation is the Vibe Hotel which is just down the road. Getting to the Site or hotel from the airport is a 20-30 minute trip via taxi and about 1 hour via bus then tram (See this link for Bus and tram information). To plan your Public Transport Journey we suggest you head here and use PTVs Journey Planner. Most Public transport, Trains, Buses and Trams. In Melbourne use MyKi like other states it’s a touch on and touch off system that requires a prepaid card that can be purchased from the Airport and most city convenience stores. Melbourne CBD has a free tram zone that operates in the city grid, take note of these areas for free city travel.
Find cheap airfares
Several of the airlines have had rolling sales with very good deals for fares to Sydney during the Technorama event 18-20 May 2018. A really good tool to use for fare-finding is Matrix ITA which gives you much of the power to compare airfares that travel agents have at their fingertips.
However, there are other, maybe even better, deals on the web if you poke around. A huge advantage of the sale prices is if you can travel with a full-fare airline for the same or lower price than the cut-rate fliers, and therefore take advantage of the much more advantageous meal and luggage policies of Qantas and Virgin.
To Technorama by road
Parkville is about 10 minutes out of the Melbourne CBD. Best advice is to use a navigation tool, but even without one it’s really easy to find the Maltese Community Centre. There is limited off street non-metered parking so best to plan ahead if you are driving in.
